Amid pandemic, the research and technology community is continuously striving to provide sensitive, specific and economical solutions in the diagnostics ecosystem. In non availability of dedicated therapeutics and complexity of pathophysiology, still reliable strategies is to prevent spread by screening and isolating the infected. The assurance to fight challenges is dependent on stakeholders. Before the contaminant particle outnumbered the defending champions inside the body, and caused significant damage the body needed to amplify the fighter, who will scan the foreigne entrants and clear them.
The clues may be in DNA, proteins or metabolites corresponding to foreign antigen. Electrophoresis is one the technologies used to investigate and identify the responsible biomolecules including good and bad proteins. Fundamentally Electrophoresis is an art, a technique and a field of study we call science which investigates the properties of particles by separating them according to charge.
Several strategies are being used like making all proteins negative and move in a sieve of gels made of polyacrylamide/agarose according to size, separating them according to native charge or making them fix to isoelectric point at corresponding pH in isoelectric focussing gradient. All these give a pattern of each kind of sample and interestingly they are unique. Which can be used to compare diseased, control and treated conditions and even important properties of proteins.
Antigens are proteins that come from foreign entrants, Antibodies are proteins that are produced against the antigens, and vaccines being developed for protection against disease are also proteins. Thus, protection is all about protein interaction and treatment is about delivery of correct and good proteins. Thus electrophoresis makes it easier to understand good or bad proteins, the most important part of laboratories, CROs and Biopharmaceuticals working to create counter strategies against challenges in these pandemic situations.
